Application for Teaching Position at Department of English Instruction

Applicant Qualifications:

Education: English as mother tongue, Master’s degree or higher, Ph.D. preferred

Specialization: English language teaching or related fields

Possible courses to teach:

1. English pronunciation

2. Teaching of English pronunciation  

3. English listening and speaking (basic, intermediate, advanced)

4. English writing (basic, intermediate, advanced)

 

Application Materials:

1. Position starts from August 1, 2020.

2. Applications accepted if postmarked by April 29, 2020

3. Criteria for selection:

a. Ability to teach all aspects of English

b. Familiarity with the school’s identity and course of development

c. Experience teaching in a university environment and relevant certifications

4. Application Documents:

a. Degree certificates, academic transcripts, and dissertation must be verified by an Overseas Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office and be accompanied by a Chinese translation.

b. If you have a teaching license with a rank of Lecturer or higher issued by the Ministry of Education, Taiwan (ROC), please attach a copy of the certificate. (copies of transcripts and dissertations are not required in this case).

c. A copy of both the front and back of your ID card. For foreign nationals without identity cards, please attach a photocopy of your unexpired passport.

d. Your resume, including detailed educational background and relevant experience

e. A list of courses you are qualified to teach. Please include syllabi for at least three courses of the Possible Courses to Teach listed above.

f. A list of publications from within the last 5 years as well as copies of 1-3 representative publications, preferably publications from SCOPUS, TSSCI, THCI, SCI, SSCI, EI, A & HCI or equivalent academic journals

g. Planned direction of academic research over the next five years

h. Other supporting materials, such as a list of research projects you have participated in over the last 5 years

5. Additional information:

a. Applicants are requested to download Personal Data Sheet down below and fill out the relevant information using WORD. Email the form to english@utaipei.edu.tw by April 29, 2020.

     Personal Data Sheet:

           Please print a copy of Personal Data Sheet and send it with your supporting documents.

   b. 2-3 sealed letters of recommendation

6. Candidates who have passed the first round of consideration will be notified to arrange an interview.

If you wish to have your documents returned, please include a self-addressed stamped envelope.

7. The candidate hired to fill this position shall submit a project to the Ministry of Science and Technology, Taiwan (ROC), in the first year and the following four consecutive years.

8. To help the new hire to adapt to the teaching environment and alleviate his/her work load, the following measures are offered:

      a. According to the school regulations, teachers ranked as assistant professors and below may deduct 2 teaching hours every week in the first 2 years to conduct a project for the Ministry of Science and Technology, Taiwan (ROC), the Ministry of Education, Taiwan (ROC), or a project partnered with industry, government, or the university.

      b. According to the school regulations, a teacher who is the principal investigator of a research project awarded by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Taiwan (ROC) may deduct 1-2 teaching hours.

The new teacher can only select one of the two options above to deduct 1-2 teaching hours.  

9. Starting from 2013 newly appointed faculty at the lecturer and assistant professor levels must be promoted within 6 years. If they are not promoted in that time they will receive a one-year extension, but their contracts will not be extended after the seventh year.

10. Application must be received by April 29, 2020 (as confirmed by postmark). It should include the information above (3 hard copies, including Personal Data Sheet). Applications may be sent to the following address:
